Lighting Designer ~ Electrician ~ Programmer

Touchdesigner
Starting with my first semester of third year, I've begun diving into the world of projection design, specifically interactive light art. While I've had some experience working with more traditional projection design for the stage with Motezuma, this was a different beast entirely. Touchdesigner is a fascinating node based software that allows you to create a near endless number of different effects based on any user input you can imagine. The possibilites with this software are endless, and I love every chance I get to learn ore about it!
Here is a view of the logic for myy first ever touchdesigner project, where I used a xbox Kinect to feed positional data into a particle field which then experienced displacement based on where the person was. The end hope was to create a sort of sand box the person could play around in, pushing around these miniature stars with their feet.

Here's a short video of my first project in action, wbere I'm able to push around these generated particles by moving my feet across the ground. Its a far from perfect application, with the kinect struggling to keep track of my position with its overhead view and low light enviornment, but I was still able to get it to work, and I was quite happy with the state of it for it being my first project with the software. I'm looking forward to getting my next project together and even more streamlined than the last!
